Position Purpose
- The Finance Intern will support the South Africa Finance team in maintaining strong inventory controls, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and assisting with various operational finance activities.
- The role provides practical exposure to inventory management, financial analysis, internal controls, month-end close processes, and business reporting within a multinational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management & Controls
- Coordinate and participate in daily, weekly, and monthly parts inventory counts.
- Assist with Spot Inventory Counts and Scheduled Element-Wide (SEW) inventory count activities.
- Investigate inventory variances and support root cause analysis.
- Reconcile physical inventory count results to SAP inventory records.
- Maintain documentation supporting inventory count procedures and audit requirements.
- Monitor inventory adjustment transactions and follow up on discrepancies.
- Support accuracy initiatives aimed at improving inventory record integrity.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly inventory count reports.
- Analyze inventory-related financial results and highlight unusual trends or variances.
- Compile monthly financial reports (i.e. JDF recovery, detailed travel, products P&L, etc) for management review.
- 1st finance review of Purchase Orders in SAP - Review GL and cost center accuracy.
Month-End Closing Support
- Assist with month-end financial close activities.
- Prepare journal entry support and working papers as required.
- Verify completeness and accuracy of inventory-related accounting transactions.
- Support account reconciliations and variance analysis.
- Follow up on outstanding month-end action items with relevant stakeholders.
Audit & Compliance
- Assist with internal and external audit requests.
- Maintain documentation required for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and internal control compliance.
- Support testing and validation of inventory control procedures.
- Ensure finance records are organized and retained according to company policies.
Data Analysis & Process Improvement
- Extract and analyze data from SAP and reporting systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency and inventory accuracy.
- Develop and maintain Excel-based tracking and reporting tools.
- Support finance process improvement initiatives and special projects.
Cross-Functional Support
- Collaborate with Finance teams, RDC teams, Supply Management and JDF.
- Participate in inventory investigations and corrective action discussions.
- Provide administrative support for finance projects and meetings.
- Assist with ad hoc analysis and requests from finance leadership.
