- The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, monitoring, control, commissioning, and successful delivery of projects from initial concept and approval through implementation, handover, and final close-out.
- The role is accountable for ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within the approved budget, in accordance with the agreed scope, and to the required technical and quality standards.
- The Project Manager coordinates and manages all project activities across key stakeholders, including Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Procurement, Finance, contractors, suppliers, and other relevant functions.
- This includes management of project schedules, CAPEX expenditure, procurement activities, contractors, risks, scope changes, progress reporting, commissioning, documentation, and final handover to the operational team.
- The Project Manager is also responsible for maintaining effective project controls, including SAP project structures/WBS, budgets, commitments, actual expenditure, forecasts, milestones, and project close-out, ensuring accurate reporting and governance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Execution
- Plan, coordinate and execute projects from initiation through commissioning and handover, ensuring defined scope, schedules, resources, milestones and deliverables are achieved.
Budget & Cost Management
- Develop and control project budgets, monitor commitments, actual costs and forecasts, manage variations, and ensure expenditure remains within approved CAPEX/OPEX limits.
Contractor & Supplier Management
- Define scopes of work, support tender evaluations, coordinate contractors and suppliers, and monitor safety, quality, cost, schedule and overall performance.
Risk & Change Management
- Identify and manage technical, operational, commercial, safety and schedule risks, implement mitigation measures, and maintain effective project change control.
Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- Ensure projects and contractors comply with company HSE standards, risk assessments, permit-to-work requirements and applicable site procedures throughout execution.
Engineering & Technical Coordination
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities, review technical specifications and drawings, ensure designs meet operational and maintenance requirements, and maintain accurate technical documentation.
Commissioning & Handover
- Coordinate testing, commissioning, snag-list close-out, training and documentation, ensuring projects are formally accepted and successfully handed over to Operations and Maintenance.
Stakeholder Management & Reporting
- Coordinate Engineering, Maintenance, Production, Procurement, Finance, Contractors and Suppliers, providing regular reporting on safety, scope, schedule, cost, quality, risks, procurement and project performance while escalating critical issues when required.

The Project Manager plays an essential role in enhancing the operational integrity of the department and the overall business.
By ensuring compliance with all relevant safety standards, the manager minimizes operational risks and potential liabilities, thereby reducing downtime and fostering a culture of safety excellence.

The Project Manager adapts to and integrates company Production System requirements for standardized work, continuous improvement and Continuous Performance Management tools into Project design and execution.

- BSc. Or BTech. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Qualification/s and/or formal training PMP®
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng)
- Recognized Diploma/Certificate in Project Management
- Proven experience in WCM and TPM Methodologies (Early Equipment Management - EEM)
- Core / Functional skills (IT, system experience etc.)
- An excellent level of written and spoken English is essential
- Ability to prepare, present and communicate financial and project information for business justification
- SAP experience of Projects Workflow
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Projects, AutoCAD).
Experience
- Experience working in an industrial environment in Project Management function role for minimum 3 years
- Excellent technical knowledge of machine operations, electrical requirements and design thinking
- Extensive experience managing machine safety protocols in line with OSHA and South African standards.
- Proven track record overseeing projects such as Energy Projects, Heavy Maintenance and Upgrade Projects,
- Ramp Up Projects ensuring site compliance and operational safety.
- Skilled in developing, implementing, and updating safety policies, procedures, and training programs for diverse teams.
- Excellent communication skills being able to understand customer requirements, and translate this into a solution through capital expenditure
- Proficient in conducting risk assessments, detailed site audits, and inspections to identify and mitigate hazards effectively.
- Strong collaboration skills, having worked closely with cross-functional teams, senior management, and external regulatory bodies.
- A systematic, logical and analytical approach with attention to detail is important for the compilation and operation of project specifications and technical documentation
- Project management experience to lead, drive and implement projects to identify, reduce or eliminate risk
Other Requirements
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (Mandatory)
- BSc/BTech: Electrical Engineering (Mandatory)
- Registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng; advantageous, not mandatory)
- Proven experience as a Project Manager (3 years or more)
- Prior Experience as a Project Engineer (3 years or more)
- Proven experience with TPM/WCM methodologies (3 years or more, advantageous, not mandatory))
- Proven experience with management of OHS Act requirements (5 years or more)
- Experience in SAP Project Workflow to manage projects (3 years or more)

The role requires collaboration and co-working with local and regional EU company personnel, including but not limited to company Engineering, Safety and Decarbonisation clusters and company Building Performance cluster.
