Permanent - Senior Network Engineer - East Rand - South Africa

The Senior Network Engineer designs, implements, and maintains our global network infrastructure. This high-impact role guarantees maximum uptime, robust security, and seamless hybrid-cloud scalability. You will serve as the highest internal technical escalation point. You will also mentor junior team members and align network architecture with business goals.

• Design scalable networks: Architect and deploy functional enterprise LAN, WAN, and WLAN solutions.
• Configure core hardware: Install and tune high-performance routers, switches, and load balancers.
• Manage routing protocols: Optimise dynamic routing and switching architectures using OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP.
• Integrate hybrid cloud: Build secure connections between on-premises systems and cloud providers like Microsoft Azure or AWS.

• Manage enterprise firewalls: Maintain network perimeters using FortiGate, Palo Alto, or Cisco ASA.
• Deploy secure access: Implement zero-trust network access, robust VPNs, and 802.1X authentication protocols.
• Audit infrastructure resilience: Conduct routine vulnerability assessments and implement strict security patches.

• Monitor system health: Oversee performance using enterprise observability tools like SolarWinds, Zabbix, or Datadog.
• Lead incident resolution: Troubleshoot critical Tier-3 network outages and complex performance degradations.
• Automate routine tasks: Write infrastructure-as-code scripts using Ansible, Terraform, or Python to minimize manual errors.
• Disaster recovery planning: Design, test, and maintain disaster recovery and failover policies to safeguard business continuity.

• Mentor engineering staff: Guide junior and mid-level network engineers through technical code reviews and design sessions.
• Own technical blueprints: Create accurate network topology diagrams, runbooks, and inventory documentation.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical field.
• Experience: Minimum of 7 years in a dedicated enterprise network engineering role.
• Protocol Expertise: Deep technical mastery of TCP/IP, DNS, VLAN trunking, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), and MPLS.
• Cloud Proficiency: Proven experience configuring hybrid environments and software-defined networks (SDN).

• Cisco: CCNP Enterprise or CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure.
• Firewalls: Fortinet NSE 4 / FCP or Palo Alto PCNSE.
• Cloud: Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate (AZ-700) or AWS Certified Advanced Networking.
