Job Title: Electrical Transmission Linesperson

Location: Perth, Australia
Department: Transmission & Distribution (Power Industry)
Reports To: Transmission Supervisor / Foreman


Job Summary:

The Electrical Transmission Linesperson is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage transmission lines and related equipment. This role involves working at heights, in various weather conditions, and often in remote areas to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electrical power.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground high-voltage transmission lines (typically 69kV and above).

  • Operate aerial lift devices, cranes, and other equipment to access elevated structures.

  • Inspect transmission lines, poles, towers, and hardware for wear or damage and perform necessary repairs or replacements.

  • Interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and work orders.

  • Install and maintain line hardware such as insulators, switches, and conductors.

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company procedures at all times.

  • Use live-line working techniques and tools where required.

  • Participate in storm response and emergency restoration efforts as needed.

  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and other crews for job planning and execution.

  • Maintain detailed records of work completed and materials used.


Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized electrical lineman apprenticeship program or equivalent.

  • Valid Journeyman Linesperson certification or equivalent qualification.

  • Proven experience in transmission line work (preferably 69kV to 500kV).

  • Valid Class A CDL or equivalent driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to work at heights and in challenging environmental conditions.

  • Strong understanding of OSHA and industry safety regulations.

  • First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and physical fitness.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.

  • Team player with strong communication skills.

  • Comfortable working independently and under limited supervision.


Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor work in all types of weather.

  • Frequent travel to remote job sites.

  • Required to work at heights using climbing gear or aerial equipment.

  • Rotating on-call schedule and availability for emergency call-outs.
