Job description:
We are looking for a Shopify Lead Engineer to join our team and take ownership of the technical vision, development roadmap, and execution of our ecommerce initiatives. The ideal candidate is a skilled full-stack developer with strong leadership capabilities, who is comfortable both guiding a team and contributing directly to the Shopify codebase.
This role is critical to ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality, scalable software solutions that support the company’s continued growth. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, acting as a bridge between business and development while fostering a collaborative, innovative, and high-performance environment.
Reporting to the IT Manager and working within the Ecommerce team, you will play a hands-on role in shaping our development processes, mentoring team members, and ensuring the optimal performance of our Shopify-based ecommerce platforms. As part of your responsibilities, you will also lead the evaluation and implementation of QA tools that can monitor and alert the team in case of issues on product pages, helping to maintain an optimal user experience and minimize downtime or conversion-impacting bugs.
The key responsibilities are:
Technical Vision & Execution
- Define and implement the technical vision and long-term architecture of our ecommerce development initiatives.
- Ensure scalability, performance, and security of our Shopify-based solutions.
- Lead the development, integration, and maintenance of high-performing Shopify stores.
- Customize Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to align with business and branding needs.
- Participate actively in coding, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
Quality Assurance & Site Integrity
- Take full ownership of the search, evaluation, and implementation of QA tools that can monitor and alert the team about issues on product pages, with the goal of maintaining platform stability and performance at all times.
- Ensure bugs, visual inconsistencies, or any issues that may affect the user experience or conversion are proactively detected, communicated, and resolved before they impact customers.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to establish clear QA workflows and alert protocols that prevent regressions and protect business KPIs.
Team Leadership
- Manage, mentor, and support the development team to ensure high-quality and timely delivery of projects.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and high performance.
- Collaborate with HR to define team roles, development pathways, and performance review processes.
- Set and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the development team.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure alignment with business and product goals.
Project Management & Cross-functional Collaboration
- Act as the bridge between the business and development teams, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
- Translate business objectives into actionable technical tasks.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scopes, priorities, and timelines.
- Monitor progress and proactively address technical or resourcing roadblocks.
What we’re looking for:
- 5+ years of experience in web development, including hands-on experience with Shopify.
- Strong expertise in Shopify (Liquid, APIs, theme customization, third-party integrations).
- Solid knowledge of frontend technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
- Strong understanding of software development best practices, Git, and Agile methodologies.
- Fluent in English (C1 or higher); Spanish is a plus.
- Empathetic leadership style with the ability to inspire, coach, and motivate.
Nice to Have:
- Experience working in startups or ecommerce environments.
- Familiarity with backend technologies or modern frontend frameworks.
- Experience managing remote, distributed teams.
