Purpose of the role:
- The Metallurgical Engineer at company is responsible for providing on-site technical support that ensures consistent service quality and strong customer outcomes.
- The role exists to help customers run stable, efficient metallurgical processes while upholding company’s technical standards and credibility.
Key Role Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory testing and analysis of foundry raw materials and sand systems, including silica sand, greensand, bentonite, coaldust, chromite sand, coatings, and inoculants, and interpret results to support process stability and quality.
- Prepare and analyse metallurgical samples for mechanical testing, hardness testing, and microstructural defect analysis, linking findings to shop-floor conditions and corrective actions.
- Lead technical investigations into casting, sand, and metal-related defects, identifying root causes and providing practical, data-driven recommendations.
- Provide technical oversight and support in the core shop, including coating preparation and dilution control, sand mixer calibration, and monitoring of core making operations.
- Support sand reclamation processes for silica and chromite sand, monitoring material handling, recovery efficiency, and reclaimed sand quality.
- Conduct chemical analysis of molten metal using spectrometers and company analysers, including carbon, sulphur, and gas analysis sample preparation.
- Monitor and support melting operations, including scrap classification, charge mix control, slag practice, deslagging, and inoculation to maintain metal quality.
- Apply metallurgical expertise to welding and heat treatment-related activities to support effective casting repair and quality outcomes.
- Provide clear technical feedback to customers and internal stakeholders, maintaining the technical standards and service quality of company.
