Position Overview
The Production Team Lead is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily operations on the production floor to ensure popped chips are manufactured safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Acting as the key link between production operators and supervisors, this role oversees workflow, ensures compliance with food safety standards (FSSC 22000, HACCP, GMP), monitors equipment, and supports the achievement of production targets. The Team Lead also plays a hands-on role in training, mentoring, and motivating team members to deliver consistent results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of production line operators and packers.
- Ensure production targets for volume, efficiency, quality, and waste reduction are consistently achieved.
- Monitor and oversee the operation of popped chip machinery, seasoning systems, oil sprayers, conveyors, and packing lines.
- Conduct start-up, in-process, and end-of-shift checks, including equipment inspections, sanitation verification, and updating production logs.
- Maintain accurate records of raw materials used, product yields, downtime, and waste.
- Ensure strict compliance with all health & safety regulations, as well as food safety standards (FSSC 22000, HACCP, GMP).
- Train, coach, and mentor team members on operational procedures, quality standards, and safe working practices.
- Lead daily team meetings and shift handovers, communicating production plans, targets, and performance updates.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and escalate unresolved problems to supervisors or maintenance.
- Monitor product quality (e.g., texture, seasoning levels, packaging integrity) and implement corrective actions when required.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement on the production floor.

Key Requirements
Education & Experience
- Matric or equivalent required; technical/food-related qualifications are an advantage.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a food manufacturing environment, preferably in snack production.
- Prior experience in a supervisory, team lead, or shift leader role is highly beneficial.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
- Solid knowledge of food safety systems (FSSC 22000, HACCP, GMP).
- Basic mechanical understanding of food processing and packaging machinery.
- Proficient in computer literacy, including MS Excel and production tracking systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality and safety standards.
